June 2009 meeting

The July BR407 meeting will be this Friday 06/19/2009 at Altamonte Mall starting around 6 PM as usual.

For show and tell this month, I bought a couple of small little LCD games at the dollar store that are supposed to communicate with each other and any other game within range. I thought it would be fun to take them apart and see how they work. Breaking stuff is always fun!

Defcon is getting close! Defcon will take place the last weekend of July into the beginning of August. If anyone is planning on going and has any questions on Vegas, transportation, lodging, what to expect at a hacker conference, or anything else, feel free to ask those of us who have been several times. Maybe we can all make plans together at the same hotel and do some room or ride-sharing.

I usually show up for the Friday meetings around 5:15-5:30 and sit towards the front of the food court so that I can easily be found with my laptop and BR shirt. You do not have to come that early! We have many people who are not able to make it until after work so you are welcome to stroll in anytime that you feel like it! Most people show up around 6 PM and we do not start any presentations until 6 at the earliest. You may miss a few things, but you are still welcome to show up for as long as you can. There is not set schedule or timeline and people are welcome to come and go as they please.

We will also have our normal meeting content...

May 2009 meeting

Our BR407 meeting for May is coming up in a few weeks on the third Friday of May (which is on 05/22/2009) at Altamonte Mall starting around 6 PM as usual. I have invited some new people so I hope to see some new faces this month. IF you have never been to a BR407 meeting before (or a hacker meeting of any kind) come by and hang out. We are very fun and informal and we welcome everyone who wants to attend.

InPh3rn0 gave us a good crash course on PHP programming last month and he and I have been working together on a project since the last meeting done in PHP and MySQL. Most of this meeting will probably be spent discussing and soliciting ideas about this project. We will explain the project, probably work on some code right there on the spot, and listen to suggestions to improve the project.

If anyone else wants to apply some of our newfound PHP knowledge (or any other knowledge or experience that they have) I have some other project ideas that people can volunteer for.

Last month I brought some show and tell items that included some old cell phones (which were given away last month) as well as some USB keys from a local lost and found. We browsed through some "interesting" files and I will be bringing these back for this meeting to give away to anyone who wants them. They are old, most are missing their caps, and they have small capacities, but they are good for quick file transfers and for forensics analysis to see if there are any other recoverable files on them.

April 2009 meeting

The April BR407 meeting will take place on the third Friday of April (which is this Friday on 04/17/2009) at Altamonte Mall starting around 6 PM as usual. We are looking at 2 presentations for this months meeting.

I will be bringing a short story and hopefully a perl/asterisk script regarding a telemarketer and an automated DO NOT CALL list. I am hoping to write this up into an article just for the fun nature of it.

InPh3rn0 has been putting together a PHP lesson/overview that he is hoping to present as well. He will bring a laptop with everything set up and ready to go so he can give a live demo. If you want a good crash course on PHP, come to this meeting.

It is not too early to start discussing any plans for Defcon as well. Defcon will take place the last weekend of July into the beginning of August. If anyone is planning on going and has any questions on Vegas, transportation, lodging, what to expect at a hacker conference, or anything else, show up this Friday. Maybe we can all make plans together at the same hotel and do some room or ride-sharing.
